DIY: Dried Flowers

Having grown up in a home with a rose garden, it's no surprise that it is also my favorite flower. Alas, they don't last very low in vases and it's such a shame to throw them away. Dried roses Here's a quick tutorial on how to have your bunch of dried roses. These will last you for a long time to come.

Air drying is the most common method for drying roses. Ideally, rose buds that are ready to open and in lighter colours are best. Gather the flowers, tie a string around the base and hang them upside down in a well ventilated area. Let them hang undisturbed for a couple of weeks and then take them down. Viola, your own dried roses are ready!

Might as well Marble!

There's something almost mesmerising in the way the colors swirl in a glass marble. Whether its the play on colors or the fact that it almost seems like the colors are dancing, marbles have a certain magical way about them! Marbling is an art that must not remain confined to a glass ball. It should be incorporated into other items around our home and marbling is a technique that's fun and easy to take on. Not forgetting the fact that the end result is absolutely fabulous!

Here's a list of the things you'll require to get your marbling on:

  • Nail Polish (Colors as per your choice)
  • Plastic bucket or tub
  • Water
  • A stick or toothpick
  • Matte Clear Nail Polish
Marbling is super easy! Read on to find out the few steps required to get this pretty look!
  • Pour some room temperature water in the plastic tub. This temperature slows down the hardening process of the nail polish.
  • Gently pour in the nail polish alternating between your preferred assortment of shades. Make sure you pour the nail polish from as low as possible otherwise it may sink. You want your nail polish floating in the water in swirls.
  • Using a toothpick move the nail polish around to create a pattern. Start from the center and work your way outwards keeping it as loose as possible.
  • Dip your item in the nail polished water and watch as the nail polish wraps itself around your item in an indentical spiralling pattern as was in the water. If there are gaps or you want additional layers you can repeat the process. Remember as with painting your toes or those impossible right hand fingers, nail polish remover will always come to your rescue in case of unwanted spots!
  • Keep it for around half an hour allowing the nail polish pattern to dry.
  •  Cover with a coat of matte clear polish or spray to give your work a protective coating.
Take a look at how many items around your house can get a makeover with this simple technique:

 Planters:

Crokery:

Coasters, Trivets and Placemats:

Home Linen:

Vases, Votives and Pen Stands:

I'd say marbling is the easiest DIY technique out there yet. With the skies lashing out and evenings out cancelled, take a look around your house and start getting things marbled!

Floors First!

Ever look at a room in your house and think it needs a statement? Most often than not you'll look to creating a piece of wall art on one of your walls or will get an amazing light fixture to drop from your ceiling. And once again the floor gets missed. Apart from your walls and celing the floor takes up the most space in your room and it's potential gets overlooked one too many times. Here's a few ways you can DIY your way into a fabulous floor. If you feel that parts or your whole floor is turning out to be an eyesore, these ideas work equally well!

Pebble Art.

Pebbling your floor is a fun and relatively easy job that has a colorful and fantastic end result. Pebbled floors make great bathroom floors as they are the perfect statement and have a lovely effect on your feet!
Here's a great tutorial on how to get your floors pebbled up :http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/rooms-and-spaces/floors/how-to-lay-a-pebble-tile-floor

Stencil Art

Painting over a drab floor is also a fun idea! Whether it be swirling mandala designs or geometric chevron prints, with the right colors and stencils your floor can be transformed into a fabulous piece of art. Even the concrete flooring of your front porch, balcony or terrace can be beautified using this technique

Carpet Art

Have a corner in your room that looks drab and needs a quick fix? Carpets are you answer. And why go for just one? Double or triple up on carpets of matching patterns and colors to create a beautiful flooring layout.

Let's get trunk together!

A perfect way to add some charm into your decor is by using a trunk. Old or new, refashioned or original the trunk is a beautiful style element to add to your interiors. It boasts of taste and functionality, promises a story and cannot be denied attention. Don't  just keep the trunk as a storage item in your home. Make sure you make use of its class and elegance too!

Turn your trunk into a coffee table and place it in the centre of your sofas as a focal point in your living room.

If the centre of your living room doesn't suit you, try moving it to the side of a sofa, as a handsome storage unit against a wall or converting it into a seating cum storage space near the window with a couple of cushions and a mattress.

The foot of the bed is also an ideal place to keep your trunk. It provides the best solution for storage of all your bedoom linen while being extremely fashionable!

If you don't find the need or the space for a trunk at the foot of your bed use the trunk as a bedside table. Pile a couple of trunks if you don't get the desired height. Place a lamp, a vase of flowers or a couple of books for the complete effect!

Keeping your trunk in the house doesn't suit your style? Take your trunk out into the open! Convert it into the most unique planter or place potted plants on top of it while storing your garden tools inside.

You can paint a funky pattern, glue on some lace or give it a distressed finish and voila! You have yourself a trunk that not only works well in multiple areas of the house but also one that has been refashioned to fit into your home style theme!
