Now imagine it swooping across your curtains, dashing across your cushions and filling up your bathroom in a vast array of colours and shades! Today's blog features the different ways in which you can colour up your home linen. This is applicable on your curtains, cushions, bedspreads and lots more.

Tie Dye Fun:

Tie dying is a relatively simple art that ends up with vivid and unique patterns. The important point in tie dying is not the colouring but how well you twist your linen. And don't forget to add some salt or something to fasten your dye at the end!

DETAIL DECOR

Ever looked at a pattern in nature or otherwise and marveled at the intricacy of its detailing? Intricate patterns seem to be all around us - from interwoven dream catchers to the parallel venation on a leaf, from Grandma's crocheted purse to the mehendi on a bride's hand! Today's blog takes inspiration from all these detailed sights and puts them into our homes!

1. Printing au naturel:

Leaves and petals have pretty patterns on their surface due to the network of veins that run across them. Additionally, leaves and petals have various shapes. You can paint the leaf/ petal directly with paint and produce a repetitive pattern on your curtains, cushions or wallpaper. Another great idea is to make blocks or stamps out of clay. While the clay is soft press the leaf/ petal onto its surface and then let it harden. You've now got a stamp that can be used to make an awesome print over and over!

2. Inspired detailing on your walls:

Dream catchers, mandalas, kaleidoscopes and the like seem to be flooding our Pinterest home feed these days. For those of you into these trends, how about harnessing the geometric details of a kaleidoscope or the spiraling pattern of a mandala and putting them onto your walls? These repetitive patterns make for soothing sights on your wall paper or curtains.

3. Detailed Light:

Light panels that create silhouettes are the perfect site  for detailed artwork. You can allow natural light to filter in creating the pattern or you can place it in front of a bulb for an all day effect.

4. Woven Decor:

Crocheting, weaving and knitting appear to be simple techniques to some people but the beautiful details that appear in the end product are marvelous! From rugs to wall decor, curtains to lamps, opportunities to introduce this detailing into your homes are vast.

Letters Make For The Better

From welcome mats to quotes on mugs, infiltrating our home decor with a bunch of letters has been around for a while! This idea can be incorporated into different aspects of your interiors and has a long way to go! Rather that screaming out loud we let our walls do it for us. And isn't that a much more guaranteed way of being heard? So whether it be quotes, your own thoughts or just words stating the use of an item around your house, adding letters to your decor is quirky, fun and bold and a great style statement to get in on!

For the Garden and Doorstep/Front Porch:

There are lots of DIY ideas on how a little bit of lettering can take your gardening to the next level. Using old cardboard make huge letter planters to spell out your name or funny garden associated words. Popsicle sticks, pebbles or sticks can be turned into garden markers to make to the garden more colorful (not that it needs that!) while organizing it. Quotes on nature deserve to be proclaimed amidst nature and using plants pots to do so is an easy job! And for your doorstep, how about turning in that boring ol' welcome mat for a new one that gets the job done in a quirky and hilarious way?

For the Living Room & Bed Room:

The walls of your living room and bedroom are perfect canvases for the expression of who you are. Stencil out inspirational quotes directly on the wall or using posters or photos. Letters can spill over onto your cushion covers, furniture, magazine racks, bookends and much more.

For the kitchen, laundry room and bathroom:

These are the best rooms to start your lettering in! Addition of clever phrases on the walls of these rooms is really easy. Easier still is the use of lettered laundry bags, cutting boards, storage containers and other things you can find.

The best thing about lettering is that the scope of DIY in it is vast and in case you're feeling a bit non- DIY the market has a lot of clever and quirky items to offer. I think it's about time your guests had an actual conversation with your home, wouldn't you say?
